13 November 2012, Zhuhai, China – GE AVIC Civil Avionics Systems Company Limited, a GE and AVIC joint venture supplying civil avionics systems, today officially debuts its new corporate brand “AVIAGE SYSTEMS (昂际航电)” at the 9th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition.
“AVIAGE”, a coined word combining AVIC and GE, speaks to both of the parent companies that power the growth of the joint venture, and also embodies reference to the aviation industry. The Chinese name 昂际, meaning “open to the future of aviation and soaring freely without boundaries”, highlights our specialties in cutting-edge technology and avionics solutions that will elevate China’s and the global avionics industry.
The emblem resembles the cockpit window of an aircraft, symbolizing the improved flight experience and advanced operational environment brought by AVIAGE SYSTEMS’ open architecture and integrated avionics solutions. It also resembles a flying wing and a victory sign, encapsulating the message of strength and optimism about the future.
Mr. Nate Manning, General Manager of AVIAGE SYSTEMS, said at the Zhuhai Air Show, “We are very happy to put on display our cutting-edge integrated modular avionics technology, which will be applied in China’s first domestically produced airplane - C919. The brand launch and the debut at the air show mark a new chapter to our company and represent a fantastic opportunity for us all to do something game-changing, as we plant our roots deeply here in China and at same time seek to expand globally.”
GE Aviation and AVIC reached an agreement in 2009 to form a joint venture that focuses on providing civil avionics products and services. In 2011, the joint venture was selected by Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) to provide avionics core processing systems, display systems, on-board maintenance systems, flight recording systems and avionics integration services to its C919 single-aisle airplane, China’s first large commercial aircraft. In October, 2012, AVIAGE SYSTEMS broke ground for its new permanent office headquarters in Shanghai, to be opened in 2014 with full R&D, testing and integration capabilities. The headquarters will be supported by the company’s affiliated work sites in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States and Cheltenham, United Kingdom.
AVIAGE SYSTEMS is a 50/50 joint venture between General Electric Company (GE) and Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) .
Building on a historic partnership between two world-leading aerospace companies, AVIAGE SYSTEMS aims to elevate the future of flight by unleashing our world-class talent, cutting-edge innovation and powerful partnerships.
