Brief Description:

  • The Supply Chain Specialist is responsible for managing the import and export operations, ensuring legal compliance, cost efficiency, and on‑time delivery. This role acts as the central coordinator between internal teams, freight carriers, and customs brokers, while proactively monitoring shipment flows and resolving transit exceptions.

Responsibilities:

  • Customs Clearance & Documentation Management
  • v Prepare, verify, and submit all required import/export declarations (commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, permits, and licenses) with accurate HS code classification and duty/tax calculations.
  • v Maintain an organized, audit ready digital and physical filing system for all shipping and customs records.
  • v Stay current with changing trade regulations, restricted commodity lists, and free trade agreement requirements to ensure full compliance.
  • External Partner Coordination (Freight Forwarders & Customs Brokers)
  • v Act as the primary liaison with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and trucking companies for space booking, rate negotiation, and pickup/delivery scheduling.
  • v Work closely with appointed customs brokers to ensure smooth, error free clearance at ports, airports, or border checkpoints.
  • v Resolve operational issues (delays, cargo damage, documentation mismatches) and conduct regular vendor performance evaluations.
  • Shipment Tracking & Exception Handling
  • v Monitor real time status of all in transit shipments via carrier portals, tracking systems, and direct follow ups; provide timely ETA updates to internal stakeholders (sales, customer service, procurement).
  • v Investigate and promptly resolve transit disruptions (holds, re-routing, weather delays, customs exams) with effective contingency measures to minimize supply chain impact.
  • Cost Control, Performance Reporting & Compliance
  • v Track freight and clearance costs against budgets; identify consolidation, mode switching, or routing opportunities to reduce total logistics spend.
  • v Generate regular KPI dashboards (OTIF, clearance cycle time, damage and claim rates) and present actionable improvement proposals to management.
  • v Develop, update, and enforce SOPs for import/export activities; support internal and external audits with complete, accurate records.
  • Other tasks assigned by the organization

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade, Business, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years of hands-on import/export, customs clearance, or freight forwarding experience; industry background is a plus.
  • Solid command of HS classification, valuation, origin rules and trade agreements and able to interpret changing laws.
  • Proficient in Excel, ERP systems and customs declaration platforms (Single Window, AMS/ISF, etc.).
  • Fluent English with strong negotiation, cross team coordination, and analytical problem solving skills, plus meticulous time management under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret data, spot cost leaks, and avoid errors that cause penalties or delays.

Qualifications Desired:

  • Professional certifications such as CCS, CITP, CSCP, or CLTD are highly desirable.
  • Hands on experience with dangerous goods, temperature-controlled cargo, or project logistics is a strong plus.
  • A proven track record in continuous improvement – streamlining clearance workflows, reducing transit lead times, eliminating non value-added steps, and driving SOP updates through data driven insights.
